Perfection is an illusion
Your idea is a product. Show up. Ship it and keep practicing
Whatever you are working on, whatever you’ve been thinking, whatever idea you’ve been holding, show it to the world and let it decide what to do with it.
Your idea isn’t and will never be perfect. Perfection is an illusion.
The more you ship and practice, the more you get feedback on what sticks. Nobody will hear you until you speak. Speak up, sing, write, dance, create in public. Let’s look at what might change your attitude on creativity and start seeing results.
Now, let’s dive in.
Main Point #1: Don’t wait for the perfect idea
A product exists. A written page exists. A song exists. The perfect idea doesn’t exist.
When you start looking at your ideas as products, it will change your perspective on creative work.
Main Point #2: The world is your playground
Show up and show the world your ideas. Play in the open. Be vulnerable and give yourself grace. Play and have fun, and don’t wait for validation. You will get applause, and you will get criticism. It doesn’t matter. It’s better than holding those ideas for yourself.
Main Point #3: Dance with fear — create a practice
You will get scared, and it’s ok. Create a practice. A practice is something you do regardless of the circumstances. I’m part of the Ship30for30. The idea is simple, create 30 atomic essays for 30 days. This is my second essay. I will be publishing every day for 30 days for the program. It will not end here. I’m creating a practice to continue doing it every day for as long as possible. That’s the practice. Please write an essay, publish it on Twitter, get feedback and keep doing it.
